first_imgBar scores good marks on audit Bar scores good marks on audit The Bar has received a good audit of its 2003-04 fiscal year operations and a special audit on financial controls has also returned a favorable result.“We received a clean opinion from our auditors; there was no weakness,” Audit Committee Chair Russ Divine reported to the Board of Governors recently. “The Bar is on solid financial ground.”The separate study of internal fiscal controls, which began in May, was also favorable, although it had several suggestions.“Generally speaking, they were very complimentary of our management. We have a high level of control in our system, and we have strong board involvement in the budget,” Divine said.Suggestions included having “a bit more formal procedures” and creating a process for ongoing review of internal controls, establishing a succession plan for senior Bar management, strategic planning for senior management, and a charter for the Audit Committee. Under your current branding, you’ve added countless new products, incentives, and account types for every type of member that you serve. As your credit union evolves, so should your brand. Sometimes a simple update will suffice, but other times, you have to consider a complete rebranding that matches the experience you’re offering your members.The exact reason you rebrand will vary from credit union to credit union, and the exact path you take can take many different forms. With that said, however, there are some general rules you should keep in mind when considering a rebrand, and we’ve compiled 4 important ideas for you!1 – Have a Good Reason for Rebranding Your Credit UnionAs a decision-maker, you may have a number of reasons as to why you want to switch things up. With that said, however, it’s vital that you map out the exact path you would like to take before you begin the process officially. Going into a rebrand without a concrete strategy can impede your progress.The best way to do this is to make a list of all of your strategic objectives and/or goals. Be transparent and involve your employees in the process from the beginning until the end.3 – Test! Test! Test!As you go through the rebranding process, it’s very important that you test everything before it’s officially launched. Testing and soft rollouts will allow for easier adjustments during the design-phase before it’s revealed to your entire membership.Some credit unions also choose to conduct brand market research before launching or even considering a rebrand. By conducting brand research studies before embarking on a refresh, this allows credit unions to gauge brand awareness and advocacy, helping to determine if a rebrand is truly necessary in the first place. 4 – Don’t Rush the ChangeEffective change takes time. Nothing will be fixed overnight successfully when it comes to a credit union rebrand. Allow yourself enough time to plan everything out, time adjustments, and time for execution. Rushing a rebrand could prove to be catastrophic.On the same note, don’t expect positive change to happen overnight. As with any kind of change, consumers need time to warm up to the idea. 100 thank you’s and what I’ve learned

first_imgIt’s hard to believe that we are 100 episodes into The CUInsight Experience. The idea was simple; try to replicate (and record) the conversations I’ve had with thought leaders from around the credit union movement over the years and share them with all of you. It’s a great opportunity to pick their brains and see if there are a few nuggets we can all learn from. At the end of the 100th episode Jim Nussle asked me what I’ve taken away from these conversations. He put me on the spot and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Here are my biggest life lessons from the past two years:Listen – This was the first thing that came to mind when Jim asked me the question. Almost every guest on the show talked about being a good listener or struggling to become a better listener. Trust – Many leaders on the show consider themselves “Type A” personalities. They advanced in their careers by doing the work. Countless people talked about how they had to learn to delegate and trust their team once they were in a position of leadership. You don’t accomplish great things alone.Share – One of the things I love most about the credit union movement is the willingness to share. Guest after guest spoke of the mentors and networks who helped them along the way. Many spoke of the importance at this point of their careers to give back to the next generation of leaders, their community, and the credit union system at home and abroad. Passion – Love what you do. And if you don’t, find something else to do. In every episode you can hear the passion in their voices. They love what they do and being a part of this credit union community. Most of us have no idea how we got here, but are grateful we did and can’t imagine working in another industry. People helping people is more than a catchy phrase with this group.Do – By putting people over profits, credit unions have the ability to change the world. I hear Jill’s and other guests’ words ringing in my ears. We have the ability to increase the financial capacity of our members and communities. We can live and share the cooperative principles that we are built on. We can create a more just and inclusive financial services experience and society. We can do good by doing what we do best.I’d like to end by thanking the amazing humans who were willing to come on the podcast and share their experiences with all of us. They were willing to be open, honest, and vulnerable at times so that we could learn from them. I would also like to thank all of you, our loyal listeners.
