first_imgView this post on Instagram Tough news around sports the last couple of days. Wishing everyone good health as we figure this out together. And for now… it’s lots of puppy time. Hope to see everyone again as soon as we can.A post shared by Tom Wilson (@tomwilson) on Mar 12, 2020 at 1:26pm PDT View this post on Instagram It was a swift and far-reaching move that impacted not only the players and the teams’ front office staff but arena workers and media members alike. In the afternoon of March 12, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the league “will pause the 2019‑20 season beginning with tonight’s games” following the NBA’s decision to shut down after a member of the Utah Jazz tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) the previous night.center_img These are stressful and uncertain times for the world. Dealing with #coronavirus in both of my worlds of medicine and NHL reminds me to practise what I try to preach: ‘control what you can and let go of what you can’t’. Keep calm (wash your hands) and carry on (smartly) 🇨🇦.— Hayley Wickenheiser (@wick_22) March 12, 2020Puck-drop between #Flames-Islanders would have been in 15 minutes. Saddledome is eerily quiet. The @NHL has done the right thing in taking this pause to help the risk of spreading this virus. I look forward to getting back on the ice soon and playing in front of our fans!— Evander Kane (@evanderkane_9) March 13, 2020 Everyone involved understands why the move was necessary to facilitate and corral the spread of what has become a global pandemic. Of course, they also took to social media to not only express their feelings about the current state of affairs and the pausing of the season but just how weird life is without hockey.Coronavirus and the NHL: Tracking how the pandemic has impacted hockey’s landscapeWhile I’m disappointed we’re not playing right now, nothing is more important than everyone’s health and safety. The league did the right thing today. Thanks to the 5th Line for your unbelievable support. We have the best fans in the world and we’ll get through this together. 💪— Nick Foligno (@NickFoligno) March 12, 2020What a day.NHL suspends season due to COVID-19 pandemic https://t.co/LrgQf0wGAA(photo credit: me) pic.twitter.com/pPR73NSbmE— Joshua Clipperton (@JClipperton_CP) March 13, 2020It’s tough to not be preparing for a game right now, but this is bigger than hockey. We support the NHL’s decision to pause the season and thank @Canucks fans for their patience and support.
