Manchester City starlet ready to fight for first team place

first_img Karim Rekik in action for PSV Manchester City youngster Karim Rekik wants to prove to manager Manuel Pellegrini that he is ready to play for the champions.The 19-year-old centre-back was farmed out on loan to Dutch side PSV last season and was a mainstay in their defence.The promising Dutchman was named in Holland’s provisional 30-man World Cup squad on the back of his performances, which has led to interest from the likes of Marseille, and he feels he is now ready to fight for a place alongside City captain Vincent Kompany.“I played every game and that is important for a young player. It was a great experience, you grow as a person and physically, it was a great step for me,” he told CityTV about his return to Holland.“I experienced playing every game in a full stadium with a lot of people and that is great, it’s the first time I have played more than 30 games for a team at first-team level.”When asked if his time in the Eredivisie had prepared him for a place in the Premier League, he said: “That is my vision, that is what I want. I will see if I am ready, it’s the manager’s choice.“I have spoken to him and he said I had a great season last year and he watched a few of my games and that I need to work hard now and fight for my place.“I need to impress Manuel and it is up to him to decide If I am ready for the first team or not.” 1last_img read more
