We are confident that the Council of Ministers, that is now called to take a final decision, can positively evaluate the solidity of the Genoa project.”As explained by the Parbuckling Project team, the ion of the project for the demolition and recycling of the wreck presented by the Consortium Saipem/San Giorgio del Porto is the result of the evaluation of all the proposals received by Italian and foreign companies/consortia in the context of the international tender process that was launched in December.The choice of this project is the result of technical considerations on the validity of proposed methodology, reliability and expertise of the companies and of the workforce involved, the certainty and rapidity of outcome, the environmental sustainability of all the working phases, the Parbuckling Project team said.The Concordia wreck removal project is the biggest naval salvage operation in history. Currently more than 350 technicians are working 24/7 to complete sponson installation before the refloating phase.All the 15 starboard sponsons have been installed and now technicians are working on the last 4 sponsons to be positioned on the port side before refloating the wreck and preparing it for towage.The schedule of operations foresees that the refloating can start by the middle of July, with the approval of the Observatory.Press Release, June 26, 2014
zoom The Government of Canada is committing CAD 51.9 million to extend contracts for one year for interprovincial ferry services in Atlantic Canada and for the disposal of the MV Princess of Acadia.Aged MV Princess of Acadia was taken out of service in July 2015 and replaced by the MV Fundy Rose.The investment is going to enable continuous ferry services until March 31, 2017, between Saint John, NB, and Digby, NS; between Wood Islands, PEI and Caribou, NS; and between Iles-de-la-Madeleine, QC and Souris, PEI, as announced by Marc Garneau, Canada’s Minister of Transport.“The Government of Canada is pleased to provide financial support to these communities in Atlantic Canada and Eastern Quebec which rely on trade and tourism for economic prosperity and community development. These ferry services contribute to the regional economy and provide safe and efficient transportation to visitors and residents,” says Garneau.The funding, announced as part of Budget 2016, is aimed at supporting operations, maintenance and repair of ferry assets.Transport Canada owns four vessels and six ferry facilities in Atlantic Canada that are leased to private operators for a nominal amount.From 2010 to 2015, the Government of Canada has invested approximately $240 million to support these Atlantic Canada ferry services.
US President Donald Trump is once again threatening to impose tariffs on vehicles coming from Canada. In a tweet last night trump said “Tariffs and trade barriers are far too high. Will tax cars if we can’t make a deal!”.The same post referenced NAFTA talks between the US and Mexico saying “Deal with Mexico is coming along nicely and Canada must wait”.There has been concerns about Canada being excluded from the recent re-negotiations on the three-country trade deal.
